All of our teachers are Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) trained and competency evaluated, which means ABA therapy is brought into the classroom! We also have therapists from Southlake Autism who work with our students as well as speech, occupational, and physical therapists that come in and work with students who need it!
Keyanna is the co-teacher in the 3-5 classroom. Keyanna has been teaching for four years and has been a tutor for almost ten years! Keyanna is a Jamaican American who is also a New Jersey native, where she completed school in Essex County. Keyanna has a seven year old daughter, Tashanna, two dogs, and a cat! Her favorite activities include reading, teaching, and learning whenever the opportunity arises.
Sarah is the classroom aid in the K-2 classroom! She just recently moved to Florida from Kentucky and is pursuing a degree in Psychology at the University of Central Florida beginning next Fall! Sarah enjoys traveling and has been to 37 states so far!
Serenity Howard is the administrative assistant at ABELS Academy. She has her Associates in general studies and has loved working with kids for the past 9 years! Serenity enjoys cooking, hiking, and traveling with her husband. They are looking forward to the arrival of their first child in June!
Mrs. Latoya McGuire, is the co-teacher in the Pre-K-K classroom. Latoya has been committed to the field of Education for over 15 years. Latoya and her husband have 2 children, and a dog named Pecan. They enjoy traveling, long walks, good food, and new experiences. Latoya says she feels honored to have the opportunity to empower children to become confident and limitless learners.
Laura Asmann is the co-teacher in the K-2 classroom! The 2020-2021 school year begins her 24th year teaching. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Program Delivery at the University of Florida. In addition, she also has a teaching certificate in Pre-K-3rd grade and is currently working towards her RBT certificate. Laura is a single mom to two beautiful girls! She enjoys spending time with her girls going to the beach, camping, fishing, and country concerts!
Jennifer Severs is the lead teacher in the K-2 classroom! The 2020-2021 school year marks her 24th year as an educator and 5th year at ABELS Academy. Jen has been at ABELS since the beginning and is proud to be a part of our team. Jen enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, baking, and playing with her son, Brice in her free time! Jen loves to travel and is an avid football fan! Being from the suburbs of Chicago and attending college in South Carolina, she says “go Bears and go Gamecocks!”
Dominique Devaux is the ABELS Academy Upper School Curriculum Coordinator. She has been teaching for nine years and has been a Curriculum Coordinator for three. She received an education form Bethune Cookman University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, her Masters degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University, where she is completing her Doctorate in Elementary Education. Originally from Charleston, SC, Dominique enjoys her time away from work visiting the beaches here in Florida and park adventures with her two kids Jonathan and Juliana.
Amy Shabluk is our lead 6-8 teacher and has been teaching for 20 years! Amy earned her Masters degree from Ball State University and has taught in Michigan, Indiana, and Florida! Amy says she loves teaching and learning from her students and colleagues. Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, watching sports, working out, golfing, and reading.
Michelle Edwards has been a part of the SABS family since 2016 where she has worked as a BCaBA and a Curriculum Coordinator at ABELS Academy. Shelly received her education at the Trinity University in Miami where she majored in Elementary Education. Michelle has been in the education field for over 30 years and experience in classroom teaching in addition to working as an Educational Therapist. When Michelle is not at work she enjoys exercising, gardening, cooking, going to the beach, and spending time with her dog, Peanut. She also has a daughter, Sarah, who lives in Austin, TX.
Andrea Ortiz is the classroom aid in our 6-8 classroom. She was a preschool teacher for 4 years before she became a nanny which she has loved doing for the last 8 years. Andrea says she loves working with kids and making a difference in their lives. She is so excited to be a part of our team and to learn new skills while continuing to have a positive impact on those around her.
Katie Schutt is our go-to gal! She floats where needed in each of our classrooms helping in anyway needed and is experiencing her first year working in education. Currently, she is a freshman in college and is majoring in psychology. In her free time she enjoys drawing, going to the gym, traveling, and exploring new places!
Mrs. Ashley Naraine is the lead teacher in the Pre-K-K classroom. She has been working in the special education field for five years! She has been in multiple roles as an aide, instructor, behavioral specialist and lead therapist. She is married to an army veteran and they have a beautiful baby boy. Ashley enjoys cooking, going on road trips with her family as well as arts & crafts. Ashley recently moved to Florida from New York and is very excited to start this new chapter with her students. Ashley says that helping her students achieve their goals is the most rewarding feeling and one of her greatest accomplishments!
Mary Hauer is the lead teacher in the 3-5 classroom. Mary has been teaching for two years and is a Registered Behavior Technician. Mary is from Rochester, New York and enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and their two dogs! Mary has been a part of our SABELS family for 2 years now and says she is beyond excited to continue to grow with you and your child on their educational journey!
Stephanie Hutchinson is a Floridian and has been in the field of education for over 13 years. She holds a Bachelor in Education from UCF, where she graduated top of her class on the Dean’s List.
Before she came to ABELS Academy, she received her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision and completed a 2-year administrative internship.
She is a proud parent of three school-age children: Hannah (9), Hayden (7), and Heath (5). Stephanie has been married for eleven years to her husband John, and they live in Winter Garden. She enjoys going to the gym, taking weekend trips to the beach with her family, and coaching volleyball at the YMCA.
